Best Time to Visit Malaysia by Region in 2026

Malaysia is a big country and is spread across different areas. Malaysia’s every area has its own weather, beauty, culture, and much more. Malaysia is a really great destination for tourists. The best time to travel to Malaysia depends on where you want to go and what you expect from your trip to Malaysia. In this section, we will inform you about everything about Malaysia by region from our own real experience.

1. Kuala Lumpur (KL) & Central Malaysia

Malaysia’s largest and busiest capital city is Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is warm and can get rainy at any time of the year. The best time to visit Kuala Lumpur is generally between July and August. This time is the least rainy, followed by January and February.

The most attractive Petronas Twin Towers are located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.  Even when it rains in KL, the showers are usually short. At this time, you can enjoy the Petronas Twin Towers, street food, and shopping malls. Kuala Lumpur diverse, multicultural city with Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences, visible in its food, religious sites, and daily life, where traditional food stalls sit beside luxury malls.

2. West Coast — Penang, Langkawi & Melaka

Malaysia’s one of the most popular parts is the West Coast. West Coast has the food capital, Penang, the beautiful island of Langkawi, and the historic city of Melaka. The best time to travel to the west coast of Malaysia is during the dry season from March to September. This time, you can enjoy sunny, dry weather. November through March is also a great window, as the northeast monsoon brings rain to the east but leaves the west coast largely dry and sunny. In my experience, avoiding the West Coast is best in September and October. Because this time, rainfall levels are higher on the West Coast.

3. East Coast — Perhentian Islands, Redang & Tioman

The east coast of Malaysia is well known for its clear waters, coral reefs, and sea turtles. The best time to visit the East Coast is from April to October, as the weather is clear during this time. During this time, you can enjoy snorkeling, diving, or just relax on the beach. The best time to visit the Perhentian and Redang Islands is from November to February. If you want to visit these beaches, plan your trip between April and October. There are beautiful beaches on the east coast of Malaysia, so you can choose the one you like. The weather is usually pleasant from April to October, which makes this time great for traveling.

4. Borneo — Sabah & Sarawak

Borneo is a great destination for nature enthusiasts. Borneo is an island that is split between Malaysia and Indonesia. The Malaysian side’s Borneo has 2 states, Sabah and Sarawak. Borneo receives some rainfall throughout the year, but rainfall is highest between November and February. Between November and February, Borneo’s rainfall is heavier and more frequent. As a result, outdoor activities and wildlife viewing time are limited. From my experience, the ideal time to visit Borneo is from March to October.

5. Cameron Highlands & Hill Stations

The Cameron Highlands and the Highlands are the best places to escape the heat of the lowlands. The climate here is pleasantly cool all year round, with temperatures ranging from a refreshing 15°C to 24°C. One of the main features of Cameron Highlands is its sprawling tea plantations. Cameron Highlands lush green fields are a mesmerizing sight and offer an immersive experience. You can learn about the tea-making process from here, enjoy a tour, and sip a cup of tea while taking in the scenic views of the plantations. This place is also famous for its strawberry farms. From here, you can pluck fresh strawberries straight from the trees and enjoy local strawberry-based delicious dishes. The amazing thing is that you can enjoy all these all year round.
